Hello! My name is Jordan Crawford and I am setting out to hike the entire length of the Appalachian Trail starting March 16, 2015! I grew up in a pretty outdoorsy family south of the Appalachian Mountains in Atlanta, Georgia. All of our family vacations usually centered around some sort of outdoor activity. Whether it was camping, hiking, fishing, or kayaking; the outdoor spirit was hewn into my life early. However, when I went off to Architecture school at Louisiana State University I quickly lost touch with my outdoor environment. With every waking hour spent in studio working on the next deadline, there was not much time left to get outside and take in the fresh air. In 2013 I graduated from Architecture School and immediately went into the workforce with an architecture firm in Baton Rouge. My first job right out of school was the best that anyone could ask for. I loved everyone I worked with and the firm that I worked for. However, Louisiana just wasn't doing it for me anymore. Sure, the people and food are amazing, but I missed the mountains. A change was greatly needed.
So in March 2015, I will be setting out to hike over 2000 miles from Springer Mountain, Georgia to Mount Katahdin, Maine on the Appalachian Trail. This blog will be a a journal of sorts documenting life on the trail, from the euphoric highs to the depressing lows.
